PM Briceño in Honduras for Bilateral Talks
Prime Minister John Briceño arrived in Honduras on Sunday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, with a formal meeting with Honduran President Nasry Asfura scheduled for today.
Briceño landed at the Hernán Acosta Mejía Air Base, where he was received by Pamela Handal, Honduras’s Subsecretary of State for Foreign Policy, representing President Asfura’s government. The reception included full military honors, with a cadet honor guard, trumpet call, and the delegation’s procession down a red carpet, followed by official introductions and photographs with Handal.
Briceño also met with Belizean cadets Fernando Valladarez and Perfecto Aldana, who are currently studying at the Honduran Military Academy.
Today’s meeting between both leaders is expected to focus on areas of shared interest, including health, trade and investment, security, and education. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional matters, a conversation made more relevant by Belize’s current role holding the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Integration System (SICA) for the second half of 2026.
Briceño’s delegation includes Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard, Office of the Prime Minister CEO Narda Garcia, Ministry of Health and Wellness CEO Julio Sabido, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade CEO Oscar Arnold.
Following the bilateral meeting, the governments of Honduras and Belize are expected to hold a joint press conference to share the main outcomes and any agreements reached during the visit.
