PM Fully Backs 2026 Plans for National Bus Company

Plans to modernize Belize’s bus system are moving full steam ahead. Back in October, the National Bus Consolidation Advisory Committee met to push forward the plans to create a national company and set operations to begin on January first, 2026. Today Prime Minister John Briceño shared his full support for the movement, noting that commuters can expect safer rides, upgraded terminals, and brand-new buses rolling out over the next few years.

“We hope it’s going to come in effect next year. I don’t know if it’s January, but next year I think we need to commend minister Zabaneh for the work that he has done. He has been doing a lot of consultations and even looking at how we can bring these modern electricity run buses to be able to reduce our carbon footprint, to be able to reduce the cost of moving passengers across the country. And also to give the passengers a good ride and let them ride in comfort, because I’ve been seeing it for the longest and it’s unfair to passengers, get into these old busses that, you get dusty, you get wet, and broke down, so this is a good change, a positive change for Belize.”
