PM Says Cabinet United Behind Third Term

At the PUP’s last National Party Council, Prime Minister John Briceño announced that he will be running for a third term. It is a decision that has people talking, inside and outside the Cabinet room. Some may be glad to see him stay on, while others, we are told, may want to see new leadership. So we asked the Prime Minister directly: has his announcement created a rift in Cabinet?

“Let me start with the obvious, Cabinet is united, the government is united, our party is united. There is no such thing as any kind of divisions. The reason I felt like it was time to announce that I will go for a third term is because the very members in Cabinet have been asking me to do a third term and I have been saying privately that I am considering it. I kept saying, I am giving it serious attention and interest. And finally, they were saying, listen I think it is time for you to make that announcement so that everybody can know you are going to lead us into the 2030 election, so that is what I did.”
