PM Urges Belizeans to Cash In on Tax-Free Weekends

Prime Minister John Briceño is urging Belizeans to cash in on this year’s tax-free weekends. With the cost of living climbing, the PM says his government is taking action, and this initiative is just one creative way to ease the pressure. He’s also announced a special Cabinet team tasked with tackling the issue head-on, outlining steps to help lighten the load for families as we head into the holiday season.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“We are conscious of what’s going on and that is why now I have set up. A team from the cabinet to look at cost of living issues and is going to be headed by myself. And I’m hoping that maybe every other cabinet meeting we could sit back and, and look and discuss what is it that, that we can do to be able to address these issues. There’s a lot of things that we have been doing, but we recognize the challenges of for people trying to make ends meet. So we need to be more creative. We need to, to find more ways where we can maybe even cut certain areas from the budget to be able to address these, these issues, and, and we continue to do that and we will not give up. We will continue to do everything, everything possible. To be able to ensure that our citizens can live a better life. To mention one more, the tax free, the GST is scheduled for the first weekend in December. It’s the what? The seventh? Sixth and the seventh, and then the twentieth and twenty-first of December. Two payday period so people will have money then to be able to go and buy for the Christmas.”
