Police Arrest Man Who Assaulted 2 Women in Old Capital

Police have arrested a man believed to be mentally ill in connection with two unprovoked attacks on women in Belize City, including one on Christmas Day.

Police said the suspect was identified through surveillance footage showing assaults on West Collet Canal and Orange Street. In the Christmas Day incident near the Michael Finnegan Market, a woman was struck without warning and fell unconscious. The suspect was later pursued and reportedly beaten by bystanders.

A second woman was assaulted on Orange Street. When detained, the suspect had visible head abrasions believed to have been sustained during an altercation with members of the public.
