Police Blanket Major Roads with Easter Checkpoints
Long weekend, heavy police presence. Over the Easter break, officers fanned out across the country, setting up dozens of checkpoints in a coordinated push to keep roads safe. More than five thousand vehicles were stopped, and hundreds of tickets were issued, as police teamed up with the Ministry of Transport. Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith has more on the operation. “As it relates to the extent of the operations that were conducted by the department in collaboration with the ministry of transport, there were fifty-six VCPs set up, a total of eight persons arrested and charged for being under the influence of alcohol while in control of motor vehicle. A total of two hundred and thirty-two tickets were issues and a total fo five hundred vehicles were searched.”
