Police Commissioner Absent Again, Questions Mount

Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado was a no show at another public event on Sunday, this time at the closing ceremony of the Williams Dawson Peace Cup, where he was scheduled to present awards alongside Minister of Home Affairs Oscar Mira. Mira says Rosado informed him two days prior that he couldn’t attend due to a family health matter, a reasonable excuse, except his absence from public events has become a pattern since being placed on administrative leave over handling of the Ryan Budna abduction. Once highly visible, Rosado has missed the police appreciation awards, the Christmas luncheon and key press briefings since returning from leave. We asked the new police minister if he is concerned and whether he wants his commissioner to be more present and visible.

“This morning he messaged me very early. In fact, we already had plans that we would be here today. That was from Friday he told me he would be here, but this morning he messaged me of some very medical issues that he has with his family and which I know are very important as well. He has a very packed schedule. He has a very – his weekends are not his. Today, this morning when he message and called that he won’t be able to make it I agree. Sometimes you have to take care of your family and take care of yourself, before we can take care of others.”

“Would you like to see more visible? He has not been in a press conference.”

“It’s always good. It’s always good to to be more visible. It’s always good to give more information. The public demands information and I think it’s going to happen. We will ensure that we have the communities and the public informed of what is happening. It is always better to inform before we have speculation out there.”
