Police are searching for 22-year-old Jahreem “32” Staine, who has been at the centre of two daylight shootings in Belize City.

The first attack happened on September 3, moments after Staine walked out of the Belize City Magistrate Court. Gunmen opened fire on Coney Drive, and nearly thirty shots were discharged. Staine escaped without injury.

Last Friday a blue Chevy Equinox on the Philip Goldson Highway also came under heavy fire. Officers recovered up to fifty expended shells at the scene. Police are saying Staine was once again the target.

Authorities have issued a wanted poster for Staine. They want to question him as part of an ongoing investigation. In June he and Eric Frazer were charged with attempted murder following the shooting of Jimmy Rojas in Belize City.

Acting Commissioner of Police Bart Jones said the attacks raise serious concerns, especially as one took place near a school. “The target that may have been in that vehicle in the previous incident was also by a school. It certainly raise concerns and we’ve given certain tasks to our intelligence and gang intervention unit to try and see how we could address that particular respect to that person,” Jones said.

He added, “We’re not going to throw mediation out the door; we’re going to continue the discussion with LIU, and LIU is going to do the work to see how we could mediate the situation as best.”

Police are urging anyone with information on Staine’s whereabouts to come forward.
