Police Hunt Killer as Family Cries for Justice
Police continue to investigate the murder of 35-year-old Delecia Flowers, who was killed during a violent home invasion this morning on Complex Avenue in Belize City.
Officers responded to reports of a burglary around 3:30 a.m. on October 24th, where they found two injured women inside the home. Both were rushed to the hospital, but Flowers later died from her injuries. Her teenage daughter, who was also attacked, remains hospitalised in stable condition.
ASP Stacy Smith said they are pursuing multiple leads. “Police have been speaking to persons in the area in the interest of identifying the person who is said to have committed this very heinous offence,” Smith said.
No motive has been confirmed, and police made no acknowledgement of reports of an earlier confrontation involving Flowers’ son and a group of young men hours before the break-in.
Now, Flowers’ family is demanding justice. A relative of the deceased took to social media, saying, “Nobody knows how we feel right now… The government and the police, they need to do something about it. They’re taking women’s lives like they’re dog, cat, and rat.”
She described the horror of seeing her sister’s home after the attack. “It’s sad right now for me and my family. You know how that looks?” she said. “My niece…God is making sure she can recover so that she can say what happened.”
When asked whether the incident was a targeted attack or linked to gender-based violence, officials responded simply with, “It is an ongoing investigation.”
