Police Officer Killed in RTA, Guatemalan Detained

Forty-eight-year-old Special Constable Marcos Acal has been identified as the police officer who died in Friday night’s road traffic accident. He was attached to the Independence Police Station. His death is being investigated as a case of manslaughter by negligence.

The fatal incident occurred at about 7:25 on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. Acal was found lying on the side of the road with serious body injuries.

According to reports, Acal was knocked down from his red and black Skygo 125cc motorcycle. He was transported to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the cattle truck was identified as 30-year-old Guatemalan national Juan Carlos Estrada Prado. Estrada Prado and two other occupants of a vehicle were detained. The cattle truck was impounded as investigations continue.
