Police Release Details of Deadly RTA
Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident on the George Price Highway that claimed the lives of two men.
The collision occurred on Thursday, October 9, around 11:20 p.m., between Miles 13 and 14, when authorities responded to reports of a crash involving a Ford F-150 pickup, a grey Nissan car, and a 1996 Kenworth Freightliner truck.
Upon arrival, officers found the Ford pickup with front-end damage, the grey Nissan about 20 feet away with similar damage, and two men trapped inside. About 400 feet from the Nissan was the Freightliner, carrying double 40-foot containers, with damage and a burst gas tank on the side of the highway.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Ford F-150, driven by 40-year-old Osman Pineda, a Belize City businessman, was travelling from Belize City to Belmopan when it allegedly collided with the rear left wheel of the Freightliner, driven by 28-year-old Urvin Wilfredo Ariaza, a truck driver from the Cayo District. Following the impact, the Ford lost control and collided head-on with the Nissan, which had been travelling behind the truck.
The crash resulted in the deaths of 35-year-old Othoniel Vasquez Moreno, a Belizean-Mexican labourer from Mexico City, and 46-year-old Amisadai Valdez Dominguez, also a Mexican labourer. Both men were transported to the K.H.M.H. mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
