Police Still Seeking Suspect Deadly Shooting that Injured Toddler

Tonight, police are still seeking a suspect for last week’s shooting incident that claimed the life of twenty-eight-year-old Dane Gillett and injured three others. Among those injuries, was a two-year-old child, who was struck in the back. Gillett’s murder came just seven months after he had been acquitted of the murder charge in the case of fifteen-year-old Dwayne Gabourel, and continued a streak of violent incidents that have plagued Belize City in recent weeks. Tonight, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith, has more details on the ongoing investigation.

“ On Wednesday first October, 2025 at approximately eighty twenty-five PM police responded to reports of shots being fired in Pinks Alley in the Belize City. Upon police’s arrival, they were able to ascertain that the shooting incident resulted in the injury of four persons and the death of another. Namely, Dane Gillet. Police’s investigation into this matter has led police to review a number of footages with a view to conclude in this case, however, the matter is still under investigation.”

“Can police say the weapon used in that incident has been used before in recent shootings in the city?”

 

Stacy Smith

“That is a matter for the forensic laboratory to determine, and certainly whenever they are shooting incidents, there is a practice on the department’s part to ascertain whether the weapon has been used. So, it’s usually powered to that department to ascertain such information.”

 

Paul Lopez

“Can you say whether any suspects have been identified or named in this incident?”

 

Stacy Smith

“No suspect has been identified so far. Police are reviewing a number of footages in relation to this incident.”

“Do we have at least a vehicle identified?”

“They are two vehicles that were identified, and these are what police are following up on.”
