Heightened shipping regulations are now in place affecting all bulk and duty-exempt cargo bound for Belize. Without the required documents at time of shipment, cargo will either be delayed, incur duties, or be withheld entirely.

“These people may have five or six containers that came in they have to process maybe a hundred and fifty two hundred declarations per container that number adds up then coupled with that Belize Bank system just did some upgrade to their system that totally have the whole program not interfacing with it now when you are trying to do a payment online payment through Belize Bank doesn’t connect to the server so the system doesn’t show it as paid then that has to go to the treasury  the treasury wont release that information until the following day so it’s a  lot of things like I said, malfunctioning of equipment at the port, a high in flow of containers that started to come in which includes this IM4 declaration like what we would call the barrel trade and stuff like that.”
