Progresso FC: People’s Stadium “Deplorable”
One of Belize’s football clubs is calling on its community for help over what it calls years of neglect at its home ground.
“For the past four years, our players have endured the harsh reality of a deplorable changing room and lack of proper bathroom facilities at the People’s Stadium. These are the same facilities used by a club that joined the Premier League of Belize,” the Progresso Football Club said in an online statement today.
The People’s Stadium is in Orange Walk Town. Images of the stadium shows floors caked in filth, trash scattered throughout, broken windows, doors propped shut with plywood, and a roof caving in.
The football club is now appealing to the business community, supporters and residents of Orange Walk to help rehabilitate the stadium’s changing rooms. “A renovated changing room would provide young athletes with a safer, cleaner, and more dignified environment. Encourage more youths to participate in sports and stay engaged in positive activities.”
Adding that it would benefit “visiting clubs, local leagues, youth tournaments, schools, and community events hosted at the stadium.”
