PSU Prepares for Action, But Members Will Decide

The Public Service Union is preparing to take a position on several pressing national issues, but first, its leaders want clear instructions from the membership. The union’s Council of Management met in Belize City today, fresh from its 104th Annual General Meeting, to establish working committees and map out its next steps. Representatives from across the country took part in the discussions. PSU President Dean Flowers says union leaders will now return to their members to secure a mandate before deciding their next course of action.

“We are having a two-day meeting because the issues are many. We will again be revisiting what we learnt over the last couple of months in terms of the burning issues, both from a public service union standpoint and from a national and public interest standpoint. Then we will be going back to our membership on a mandate. On some issues we have been very diplomatic, very patient, we have acted in good faith, and we don’t believe the government has done the same. So, coming out of this weekend’s meeting, our membership will give us a mandate on some of the pressing issues before us.”
