Public Consultation Set on BWS’ Tariff Increase

And speaking of utilities, your water bill could be going up. Belize Water Services is kicking off its five-year tariff review, and part of the plan includes a proposed twenty percent increase. They’re hosting a public consultation Friday night in Belize City to explain why. The company says without the hike, it can’t keep operations running or fund critical upgrades. If approved, the new rates would kick in April 2026. We asked Prime Minister Briceño for his thoughts on the proposal; here’s what he had to say.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“With BWS, remember they have a capital investment of about a hundred and thirty million dollars. They have been operating marginally profitably right now because they have not gotten a price increase since 2015. So, prices, as much as we don’t want it to go up, it is something we have to face.”
