Punta Gorda to Get Modern Football Field
Minister of Economic Development and Toledo East Area Representative Osmond Martinez met Friday with Football Federation of Belize (FFB) President Sergio Chuc to discuss the installation timeline for a synthetic football pitch in Punta Gorda.
Martinez confirmed that the synthetic turf has already arrived in Belize but said installation will depend on weather conditions. He explained that the site will need a few weeks of dry, sunny weather before the surface can be properly prepared and the turf laid.
Photographs released with the update show rolls of the turf already in country.
The project is expected to improve sporting facilities for young people and residents of Punta Gorda and surrounding communities.
Community response has been mixed. While some residents welcomed the development, others raised concerns about other pressing issues in the area. One Facebook user commented, “Glad for all that but the street by cemetery is a river the holes are the size a bigfalls river unu please fix it da noh animal have to walk in there or swim tru.”
