Rainy Weekend Ahead

Belize is in for a wet weekend as a frontal system moves into the country and stalls. This system will bring widespread rain and thunderstorms.

Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon said today that a moist northerly airflow is what has already produced significant rainfall, mainly in central Belize.

Weather stations recorded one to three inches of rain in Belize City over the past 24 hours. Hattieville saw as much as five to six inches as intense downpours moved through overnight and into this morning.

Gordon said the incoming front will linger over the country over the next couple of days. “We have a frontal boundary approaching the area, and ahead of that, there’s a moist northeasterly airflow which is supporting this shore activity,” he stated.

“It’s gonna be a rain front where we are gonna have continued showers, and it’s on the storms tomorrow for Saturday and even into parts of Sunday,” he added.

Gordon said the rainfall will begin over northern and central Belize before spreading across the country. The Met Service expects gradual improvement by Monday.
