Rape Case Against Elrington Dropped

The rape case against attorney Orson “OJ” Elrington has been dismissed after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) entered a nolle prosequi in the High Court. The move ends proceedings that had spanned two years.

Last week, Justice Nigel Pilgrim directed DPP Cheryl-Lyn Vidal to provide the complainant’s position on whether the trial should be held behind closed doors. That statement was not produced. This morning, the Crown signalled it would not proceed.

Elrington was accused of allegedly raping a woman in her mid-twenties in January 2024.His attorney, Alifah Elrington, defended the push for an open hearing.

“It should never be assumed that the defendant is going to give up that constitutional right,” she said. “This has been a public trial… Unless you are a public figure, there’s no other rape person accused of rape that is followed by the media.”

“For my client, we will accept what has transpired, but there’s nothing that can bring back the damage that has been done to my client’s reputation,” she added.

Elrington described the case as “the most difficult and darkest period” in his life and maintained the matter “should not have been before the court.”

He said legal advice will guide any next step. Full story on News 5 Live at 6 p.m.
