Ready to Talk Climate? Belize’s Climate Week to Kick Off in PG
Climate action, innovation and sustainability will be the focus in Punta Gorda as Belize hosts its fifth annual Climate Week from August 21 to 24.
The event will be held at the town’s sporting complex under the theme, “Where Innovation Meets Impact: Driving Resilience, Scaling Technology and Expanding Inclusion in Climate Action”.
The week will open with a community parade and official opening ceremony before moving into four days focused on different areas of climate action.
Chief Climate Change Officer Edalmi Pinelo says this year’s programme is designed to give Belizeans an opportunity to interact directly with climate experts, organisations and initiatives working across the country.
“You will have the opportunity to explore and interact climate action, innovation, technology, creativity, conservation, and inclusion,” Pinelo said, stressing that inclusion means “everybody at all ages.”
Climate Week will follow a format inspired by the annual United Nations climate conference, with activities divided into “blue” and “green” zones.
The green zone will feature panel discussions with experts, while the blue zone will include organisations and government ministries through exhibitions and booths.
Day two of the four-day event will focus on the orange economy and creativity, followed by a day dedicated to the forest and agriculture sector. The final day will explore blue spaces and technology.
The event is expected to involve experts, government agencies, independent organisations, students and the general public on the subject of climate action.
