Record-Breaking Cold Swept Across Belize
Belize experienced an unusually cold night as minimum temperatures plunged across the country, breaking February records in several locations.
The cold snap was most severe in the north and parts of the west, while the Belize District and coastal areas saw slightly milder conditions. Preliminary data shows Libertad in Corozal and Gallon Jug in Orange Walk recorded the lowest temperatures nationwide at 5.4°C (41.7°F). These temperatures are believed to have set new minimum records for February.
Several other locations also recorded their lowest February temperatures. Tower Hill registered 7.8°C (46.1°F), Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport recorded 10.5°C (50.9°F), Baldy Beacon dropped to 6.6°C (43.8°F), and Melinda recorded 10.5°C (50.9°F).
The National Meteorological Service of Belize says conditions are expected to gradually warm in the coming days.
