Rodwell Ferguson Endorses Sugar Industry Incentives
The newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Rodwell Ferguson, made his debut in the House today, and he came out strong. Speaking on the proposed tax exemption extension for ASR/BSI, Ferguson gave his full backing to the move. He says he understands the struggles farmers face because he’s lived through it, spending twenty-five years in agriculture before stepping into politics.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture
“I was recently appointed the minister responsible for agriculture and I see when an investment is being made. An initial investment will always require an incentive because you never know what the outcome will be and after a period of time you will say, I am now making a profit and will pay all the taxes due for the benefit of the Belizean people. While I am new to the ministry of agriculture, I worked in the agriculture industry for twenty- three years before coming into politics. I know the strain the people in agriculture are going through and as a responsible government if you want to secure the future for the people of Belize you have to give incentives for them to survive and make a profit margin.”
