San Ignacio Vendors Cry Foul After Promoted Festival Falls Apart

Tensions are rising in San Ignacio tonight after more than sixty small businesses were left questioning whether they were caught up in a business deal gone wrong.

Back in December, vendors signed on and paid between fifty and one hundred dollars to participate in a planned “Food and Soca Tour” set for March 7th to 9th. The event was organized by Trinidadian promoter Irwin Denis, a former franchisee of the Island Run Delivery app, and was marketed as a major push to promote local businesses through the platform.

But just weeks before showtime, the event was abruptly postponed without a confirmed new date. When vendors requested refunds, they were told the funds had already been spent on event preparations and would be repaid once finances were recovered.

Some business owners say additional red flags surfaced, including reported venue changes and concerns about official approvals. Police have reportedly advised that the matter may be civil.

Denis denies any intent to scam vendors, says financial challenges forced the postponement, and promises that full refunds will be issued.

Is this a misunderstanding or a costly lesson for small businesses?

We have responses from vendors, Denis’ apology, and what could happen next.
