San Narciso Gets New Substation, More Communities to Follow

The new San Narciso Police Substation was officially inaugurated on October 29, with the facility expected to improve access to police services for residents of 13 villages in the Corozal District, approximately 40,000 residents.

The substation was developed under the Belize Integral Security Programme, with approximately $928,000 in funding from the Government of Belize through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

Prime Minister John Briceño said the facility represents an investment in public safety and the conditions needed for communities to develop. He noted that businesses, farmers and families depend on security to operate, work and live with greater confidence.

“It is unfair on us that we demand so much from the police without giving them the proper equipment,” Briceño said. “I have visited some of these stations, and I must tell you that it pains me to see the conditions of these buildings and that they have not been given the proper attention.”

According to Briceño, there are plans to construct additional police substations, with the next station expected in Corozal Town, followed by Orange Walk Town, Santa Elena, Belmopan, and Belize City.

Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado said the San Narciso facility will complement the existing police presence in rural communities and provide more accessible services to thousands of residents.

“Be visible in your communities. Listen to the residents’ concerns. Respond with urgency and professionalism. And build relationships founded on trust,” Rosado said.

Corozal South West Area Representative Ramiro Ramirez said the new station follows years of requests for improved police facilities in the area. “This station is a symbol that San Narciso matters, that the north matters, that our safety matters.”
