Sanae Takaichi Becomes Japan’s First Female Prime Minister

History was made in Japan today, Sanae Takaichi is officially the country’s first female prime minister. The Liberal Democratic Party leader clinched the post after edging past the required majority by just four votes. Takaichi’s political career spans decades and multiple ministerial roles, and she’s known for her conservative nationalist stance and admiration for Britain’s late trailblazer, Margaret Thatcher. President Trump recently called her ‘a highly respected person of great wisdom and strength.’ But beyond politics, Japan’s new leader is a motorcycle enthusiast, a rock music fan, and a stepmom to three. Her rise to the top wasn’t easy, this was her third attempt after previous bids in 2021 and 2024.
