School Buses Back on the Road 

School bus transportation services across Belize are back in operation, says the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology. 

MOE issued a very short statement today announcing that “all school bus transportation services are now Operational.” 

The announcement comes after News 5 reported on Monday that some operators had already suspended services after going three weeks without payment. Concerned and affected government-contracted bus operators said they could no longer afford to keep routes running without payment from the government. 

The payment delays were linked to a new contracting process introduced this school year, which Education Minister Francis Fonseca previously said requires school bus contracts to undergo review by the Contractor General’s office. 

In its statement today, MOE attributed the disruption to that same new process and thanked parents, students, teachers, principals and bus contractors for their patience while payments were being processed.
