Senator Glenfield Dennison Responds to Critics

Union Senator Glenfield Dennison is defending himself tonight as a leaked six‑figure legal invoice fuels questions about his role in the ongoing BTL severance fight. The document suggests he provided outside legal services while serving as a Crown Counsel, but Dennison says that’s not true. He insists he never charged the workers’ group a cent and claims the invoice was only a negotiating tactic. He also maintains he hasn’t broken any public service rules.

On The Phone: Glenfield Dennison, Union Senator

“I have been very clear to the BCWJ that I have zero, zero fees for them. This is entirely just in social justice capacity. And I wouldn’t feel right taking one red cent from hardworking workers when I didn’t, when I didn’t earn any of that severance. So I am resolute that this is not for compensation. The question of an invoice which, which is just being spun by BTL was only raised in the context of the value of legal work for BCWJ, that they would have to compensate an attorney at market value as a negotiating tool for why they, they would prefer to not go to litigation. As it relates to the question of my employment, I think that I know the public service regulations a little better than Channel Five. And I don’t think, I don’t feel that I would have done anything that is in breach of the judicial legal services regulation. And if the feeling is that I did then we’ll just have to test it. And I think it would be a good test case because I am, in fact, constitutionally appointed as the senator for the Trade Union Congress, and rightfully so representing workers.”

And as the debate widens, Dennison says he’s ready to defend his actions in any forum, insisting he’s done nothing outside the rules.
