Seven Injured in Highway Crash

Police are investigating a road traffic accident that left seven people injured on the George Price Highway Thursday afternoon.

Around 3:00 p.m. officers responded to a collision at Mile 38, near St. Matthew’s Village. At the scene, police found a Kia Spectra with extensive front-end damage on the highway and a van overturned in a roadside drain.

Investigators say the Kia was being driven by Police Constable Harim Tzib, while the van was driven by 34-year-old taxi operator Walter Cortez of St. Matthew’s Village. Cortez had six passengers onboard and was heading towards Belmopan when the Kia reportedly rammed into the rear of his vehicle as it approached a pedestrian crossing, causing the van to overturn.

Both drivers and all six passengers were rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities reported that everyone sustained minor injuries and were later listed in stable condition.
