The sister of Shakeem Ferguson says the family is still struggling to process his murder. She described the loss as sudden and devastating to the family. Ferguson was one of the two murders that were recorded on Sunday in Ladyville Village. His friend, Elroy Bainton, was murdered just minutes after Ferguson.

Ferguson’s sister told News 5 she was asleep when the news reached her just after 5:30 p.m. “For the 36 years I lived ya so, I never expect something like this. This da like a shock to we,” she said. “He almost reach home”.

The sister said she was not aware of her brother being under any threat by anyone. “I nuh see my breda as a gang person, fih seh, he hang da di streets or things like that,” she said. “He always go through this alley, and relax and drink with these girls by the shop and things like that.”

“I wouldn’t know to say who would want to hurt my bredda like that,” she added. She reflected on her brother’s ways, describing him as a “cool person” who she would “always drink together, party together, and have a lot of friends together.”

She said she shared a similar bond with Bainton, describing herself as a “sister” to him. She said, “I grew up with he, I always been up and down with he through bad times. I da like his sister weh always di deh for ah.”

Ferguson’s murder has been “really rough” on the family, the sister said. The family is now preparing to lay the 24-year-old to rest. He was one of ten siblings.

“I nuh want no problem with nobody and nobody fi harass me and thing. I don’t really fool with people,” the sister added.
