“She Was Innocent”: Sister Speaks After Fatal Motorcycle Crash
A Sunday evening ride ended in tragedy near Trial Farm Village when thirty-three-year-old Delty Cordova lost her life in a motorcycle collision.
Cordova was among a group of riders travelling from Corozal to Orange Walk when a sixteen-year-old minor, reportedly without a license, made a sudden turn. The crash threw Cordova onto the pavement, where she took her last breath.
ASP Stacy Smith explained, “The other cycle was driven by a sixteen-year-old minor accompanied by an eighteen-year-old. It is alleged that the minor made a sudden turn to the left without giving any indication, and this caused Mr Banks, who was travelling in the same direction, to collide into the rear of that cycle.”
Cordova’s sister, Jess, said Delty began riding more often only a couple of months ago.
Jess believes her sister was the victim of recklessness. “She was innocent, and one craziness that this young boy was doing caused this accident. I hear that he was saying I am sorry, I am sorry. That is all he was telling my sister. But my sister could not do anything. She was right there taking her last breath, and the ambulance take long and she died right there on the spot.”
Jess responded to social media posts, saying that her sister was not driving the motorcycle and was not under the influence of alcohol. She also urged riders to be more cautious. “My advice is to just be careful and know how to drive. You have to think for other drivers, not only yourself.”
Police have detained the minor and the adult who permitted him to drive. A notice of intended prosecution has been served.
