Shyne Barrow Fires Back at Opposition Leader Over Mesopotamia Seat

Moses “Shyne” Barrow has publicly rejected what he calls “scurrilous claims” that he has misrepresented himself as the Area Representative for the Mesopotamia constituency, insisting he remains the duly endorsed caretaker under party rules.

On Thursday, the United Democratic Party (UDP) issued a statement rejecting any suggestion that Barrow represents Mesopotamia, affirming that Lee Mark Chang remains the only duly elected area representative.

Barrow fired back in a letter addressed to ‘Tracy Garcia’, saying he continues to serve as the UDP’s duly endorsed caretaker under the party constitution. “Since my Endorsement Convention on November 11, 2018, there has been no Convention, endorsement or contest to replace me,” he wrote.

He also dismissed assertions that Chang was ever the party’s caretaker or standard bearer. Chang defeated Barrow with 601 votes to Barrow’s 318, and the UDP has since stated Chang is the only duly elected area representative for the division.

Barrow, however, insists he remains the party caretaker while Chang serves as Area Representative.

He went on to warn that ongoing disregard for party rules could force a stronger response. “If the continued dictatorial disregard for the UDP Constitution persists, I will have no choice but to expose you,” he wrote.
