Solar and Water Expansion Reaches More Villages
The government is making steady progress toward universal access to electricity and potable water, with only 22 villages still without power and 15 without running water.
Two communities, Otoxha and Mabil Ha, were recently added for solar installations. CEO of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Valentino Shal, says more villages are being added each year as part of a national push to close the gap. “We keep ticking off the boxes when it comes to electricity,” Shal said.
Water access is also expanding. Most of the remaining unserved villages are in the Toledo District, with one in Corozal still awaiting connection.
Shal affirmed the government’s goal: “By 2030, everybody in Belize will have running water.”
