EZ Investment Dream Ballers Secure Spot in Toucan Cup Finals

Good evening, I am Paul Lopez with this week’s installment of Sports Monday. On Friday night the EZ Investment Dream Ballers secured their spot in the Belize Premier Basketball League’s Toucan Cup Finals after a thrilling win or go home match against the Punta Gorda Panthers. After four quarters of play time inside the Russel Chiste Garcia Stadium Dangriga Dream Ballers came out on top with a score of seventy-four to their opponents fifty-five points. We heard from Head Coach Byron Flowers about the team’s historic trip to the finals.

Byron Flowers, Head Coach, Dream Ballers

“Well this is history in the making. This is the first time the Dream Ballers have ever advanced in the playoffs. I am overwhelmed. We played really hard for this.”

Paul Lopez

“The Panthers had your backs against the wall when they won that second game, what did you all have to adjust?”

Byron Flowers

“Well, we were not panicking, because it was a back to back game and in the last three minutes I saw that my guys legs were gone. So, it was a game and we knew when we came back home it would have been over.”

We also heard from Kirk “Shabba” Smith who was good for ten points and ten rebounds within thirty-two minutes of play time.

“It was a win or go home game. We knew we couldn’t lose, could come in focused. Our bench was, we had great energy off our bench. Everybody came to hoop. If you look at the stat line, we had nine, ten. Everybody was scoring the ball. Probably our best game yet.”

The star player of the night was under-twenty-one team member, Euan Wade. He stepped into the game a bit timid but grew bolder with every passing moment. Wade only got twelve minutes of play-time. But, we were able to make every minute count, with ten points, six rebounds and two still. Wade also had the crowd on his side, cheering him on with every play.

“First of all I just want to give thanks to God, because without him nothing would happen. Just composure and putting in the hard work that was all?”

Paul Lopez

“What were your teammates telling you as you continued to make points?”

Euan Wade

“They said, just to keep attacking because I can do so.They kept giving me the positiveness so I can push forward.”

And from basketball in the south to football in Ladyville. The Medina Materials Football Semi-Finals went down on the Ladyville Technical Football Field. We were captured two games. The first one between Hattieville and Yabra. Hattieville won that match with one goal to zero. In the second match, Ladyville Rising Stars took on Carmelita Strikers. Rising Stars won convincingly with a game that ended five goals to zero.

And finally, for tonight, Belize’s National Team played a friendly match against the Cancun Heat in an electrifying international exhibition. Team Belize lost that match with a final score of ninety-four to eighty-eight. The game took place in Chetumal and despite Belize’s loss, they put off a valiant effort for a team with players from different organizations. Well folks, that is all we have for you in tonight’s coverage of Sports Monday. I am Paul Lopez.
