Sports Minister Slams Past Leadership, Promises Fresh Start
It’s not every day you hear a minister say they had to “blow up everything and start over.” But that’s exactly how Minister of Sports Anthony Mahler describes the state of the ministry when he took office. According to Mahler, what he inherited wasn’t a functioning system, it was lip service, with little to show in terms of real results.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Sports
“We take the youth and sports thing very seriously but we have to blow up everything and start over and I am being honest. People will say things, but it has not been working. When we lose thirteen one to Costa Rica, that is not a good feeling, it is not a good look. People play sports, it is how we set up the programs and systems for us to be able to compete. It is just because there has not really been that will and organizational capacity for us to focus on sports. As long as I know it has been lip service. Well the talking done now, we will put our money where our mouth is.”

“So you will put your predecessor in that category, lip service, he is your colleague.”
Anthony Mahler
“Yeah, I said what I said.”
