Stolen Hilux Recovered After Police Chase

A vehicle stolen from the Football Federation of Belize compound in Belmopan City was recovered early this morning following a police pursuit that ended near Calla Creek Village in the Cayo District.

At around 3:55 a.m., officers of the San Ignacio Special Operation Team were on mobile patrol when they received information of the stolen vehicle.

Acting on that report, officers proceeded to the Bullet Tree Falls substation, where they were joined by personnel from the Mobile Interdiction Unit before continuing patrols along Santa Rosa Road.

While on that patrol, the officers spotted a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and signaled the driver to stop. Instead of complying, the driver sped off.

At the same time, officers also observed a male individual on a motorcycle parked along the roadside, who was immediately detained. A pursuit of the fleeing vehicle then followed in the direction of Calla Creek Village.

The chase came to an end at a hammock bridge in the village, where the vehicle was found. Upon inspection, police say the ignition key was still inside the vehicle and a Belize driver’s license was found on the floor near the driver’s seat.

The vehicle was processed and photographed before being transported to the San Ignacio Police Station and impounded.
