Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of a young man on Thursday evening.

Around 5:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of an accident along the George Price Highway between miles 10 and 11. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of 16-year-old Alex Griffith.

Preliminary information indicates that Griffith was riding his bicycle when he reportedly lost control, fell onto the street, and was subsequently run over by a passing bus. The bus was being driven by a man identified as Jonathan Eck.

Authorities say the bus was properly licensed and insured at the time of the incident. Whether speed was a factor remains under investigation.

Police confirmed that a full file will be prepared and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal guidance on whether any charges will be brought against the driver.

This morning Sadie Vernon Technical High School issued a statement saying, “Alex was a part of our school community for the past two years, and his presence brought light, energy, and warmth to those around him. The Board of Management, Administration, Staff, and Students are deeply saddened by the unfortunate loss of such a young and vibrant soul. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life. May you find strength, comfort, and peace in the memories you shared.”
