Suspect Escapes Custody After Robbing Tourists

Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a robbery involving two American nationals and for escaping from lawful custody.

According to ASP Stacy Smith, the suspect gave his name as Israel Bradley of 16 Requena Street, Santa Elena Town, but police believe that information may be false.

The robbery occurred on Friday, December 19, when two American women reported that they were walking along Burns Avenue when they were accosted by a man armed with a knife.

“The male person was armed with a knife and proceeded to demand their personal belongings. A struggle ensued, after which he was able to wrestle a purse belonging to one of the females,” Smith explained.

The purse contained a cell phone, $200 in cash, and personal cards. Police traced the phone to an area where it was recovered, and officers later detained a man matching the description.

However, during detention, the suspect escaped. “While the officer in charge of the cell block was facilitating the cleaning of the cell block, the male person was able to bolt and make good his escape,” Smith confirmed.

Police now believe the suspect gave false particulars and are asking the public to share any information on his true identity or whereabouts.

“We take this opportunity to remind members of the general public that it is, in fact, an offence to harbour or conceal wanted persons,” Smith warned.
