Suspect of Killing Woman, Dumping Body in Garbage Drum Denies Involvement

Police continue to investigate the murder of 42-year-old Shaniele Faber, whose body was discovered over the weekend at the corner of Amandala Drive and Cemetery Road in Belize City.

“Police’s investigation includes the review of video footage, which has led police to detention of one male person who is currently in custody, and charges are expected to be brought in relation to his connection to this incident,” Smith said.

The detained individual has made certain claims in his defence, which investigators are obliged to record. “It is the police’s duty whenever anybody’s detained and they want to make any statements in relation to their defense or anything of that sort, that they are afforded the opportunity to do so,” Smith explained. She noted that a decision on charges must come within 48 hours of detention, and that timeline is “winding down.”

Video evidence circulating on social media shows that Faber’s body was transported to the site where it was later discovered.

A forensic examination will determine the cause and time of death, as well as whether decomposition had occurred.
