Suspected Drunk Driver Charged After Fatal Motorcycle Accident
Kyle Vasquez has been arrested and charged for the fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of 34-year-old Danny Mai early Saturday morning.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero said officers arrived at the scene around 4:30 a.m. at mile 64 on the George Price Highway, where they found “a damaged Toyota Corolla car and a motorcycle.”
Mai was returning home to Santa Elena on his motorcycle after visiting his mother in Blackman Eddy village in Cayo District when his vehicle was struck by a Toyota Corolla heading towards Belmopan.
Mai was taken for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
“Vasquez has since been arrested and charged for Failure to Provide a Specimen and Driving a Motor Vehicle without Due Care and Attention,” Romero said.
Romero confirmed that police “suspected that he [Vasquez] was under the influence. So he was charged.”
Mai’s mother, Shirley, told News 5 her son had been visiting her because she was unwell. “Danny came to check on me… And unfortunately, that incident happened.”
“Danny was not a drunkard that you can find drunk in the streets. Danny was the most humble person one can find,” she said.
