Suspected Measles Case Detected in Toledo
A suspected case of measles has been identified in the Toledo District.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness says the case involves a 19-year-old with recent travel history to Guatemala, where a major outbreak is ongoing. The diagnosis was made on April 24 and immediately prompted a public health response.
Officials confirmed that isolation and quarantine measures were put in place for the patient and known contacts. Health teams have also b
egun a ring vaccination campaign and community outreach in the area to contain any possible spread.
The development comes as Guatemala reports more than 5,000 measles cases since late 2025, increasing concern about cross-border transmission.
The Ministry is urging the public to ensure they are vaccinated, warning that measles is highly contagious but preventable. Authorities say they remain on alert and continue to monitor the situation closely.
