Belize is advancing its digital health transformation with the implementation of the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11). Its goal is to improve the national health data systems and clinical decision-making.
The four-day training is organised by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) and PAHO/WHO Belize. It is part of a broader effort to integrate ICD-11 into the country’s Clinical Data Exchange Platform (CDEP), which will eventually unify the Belize Health Information System (BHIS) and the NHI Real-time Automated Web-based Application (RAWA).
“This workshop represents an essential step in Belize’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the quality, consistency, and utility of its health information systems,” said Dr Karen Lewis-Bell, PAHO/WHO Representative in Belize.
ICD-11, once fully adopted, will enhance disease surveillance, improve morbidity and mortality data, and support timely public health interventions, according to Dr Francis Morey, Deputy Director of Hospital Services and Allied Health.
The training also equips IT specialists to manage system interoperability.
