Teenager Reported Missing After Bee Attack Near Haulover Bridge

A search and rescue operation is underway near the Haulover Bridge along the Phillip Goldson Highway just outside of Belize City. Reports are that the teen and her elderly father were walking in the area when the pair were attacked by a swarm of bees. 

It is believed that the girl jumped into the river to escape the bee attack. 

According to reports, the father was taken for medical attention, but the teenager remains missing more than an hour after the incident. 

A relative told News 5 that the girl is believed to be between 17 and 18 years old. The relative also said the teenager is autistic.

According to officials on the ground, the area where the teenage is believed to have entered is between 30 and 35 feet deep. A swimming expert told News 5 that the murky water conditions is presenting a challenge in the search and rescue.  

A growing crowd has also gathered at the scene to lend assistance to the search effort.
