The Bar Association Has A New President

The Bar Association of Belize has chosen a new executive team to lead the country’s lawyers.

At its Annual General Meeting on March 12, the Bar Association elected a new executive, reshuffling its top posts. Jose M. Alpuche, who previously served as vice president, has stepped into the role of president, while former president William Lindo now takes on the vice presidency.

Darinka Muñoz joins the leadership as treasurer, replacing Stevanni Duncan Ferrera, and Kimberly Wallace continues as secretary. Senior Counsel E. Andrew Marshalleck, Estevan Perera, and Immanuel Williams remain on the committee, providing continuity alongside the changes at the top.

While the announcement may seem far removed from the average Belizean, the Bar Association plays a quiet but important role in Belize’s justice system. Its members often weigh in on legal reforms, court procedures, and issues that affect how laws are applied. A strong executive can influence debates on everything from constitutional changes to everyday access to justice.

In an official release, the new leadership gave its commitment to working “for the benefit of the Association’s members and the betterment of wider society”.
