A young couple was found dead inside their home near Hillview Park in Santa Elena Town after their families became concerned when they did not return to pick up their child.

Police were called to the house on Monday morning after relatives went to check on 31-year-old Michael Williams and 21-year-old Delisha Estrada. ACP Hilberto Romero said the couple was last seen Saturday morning, and police believe they died sometime Saturday afternoon.

Family members discovered the bodies after becoming concerned when the couple did not return for their child. Romero said the relatives went to the house, where “they smelled something and they called for the police.”

According to Romero, a doctor visited the scene and examined the bodies, but police say the cause of death cannot yet be determined. The bodies were later taken for more extensive postmortem examinations. “We are carrying out a full investigation to determine the facts, but at this time, we will await the postmortem results to determine the cause of death,” Romero said.

Romero said there were no signs of a break-in and that the house was locked from the inside when police arrived. Their cellphones were also recovered.

The deaths have left two families searching for answers. Estrada’s mother, Locett Vanega, said she wants to know what happened to her daughter and said she does not believe that Estrada would have taken her own life.

Vanega said Estrada loved her young son and had recently returned to high school.

“I just want find out what happened to my daughter,” Vanega said.

Williams and Estrada had reportedly been living at the home for about four months. Residents told News Five the couple had recently been working towards starting a business and had been selling fruits and vegetables from a shed in front of the house.

San Ignacio and Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp said he had recently met with the couple and described them as ambitious young people who were looking towards their future.
