Belize is setting its sights on Olympic history, aiming to qualify for the Games for the very first time by 2032. The country’s best hope lies in individual disciplines, and the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association is backing that vision by financing the training of six standout athletes. Three of them live in the United States and have also earned Division One university scholarships. We spoke with these athletes about the proudest moment of their sporting careers so far and how they plan to use the funds being provided.

“My highlight peak performance, I would say was definitely last season at this school as when I transferred to the division one level. You know, coming here at this school, I helped the school win three conference titles at the division one level. So my goal is just to try to qualify for next year for the PanAm and also just try to get as close to that Olympic qualifying times and better myself nutrition wise and all these things.”

“My main goal in representing Belize would be, um, to win a medal of any color at any championships that. I may attend in the future, and this scholarship would definitely mean a lot to me in assisting with transportation to numerous meets out of the state and country and assisting with more technical equipment and coaching to improve my swimming.”

“I would say that my peak performance this year would’ve been at New Balance Nationals. I jumped six thirty-four meters, which is twenty feet nine. And I would say my goals for the future are to continue to place at the different events that I go to get top three.”
