Transport Minister Backs Tren Maya Expansion into Belize
When it comes to Tren Maya, Belize should be all in; at least, that’s the view of Transport Minister Dr. Louis Zabaneh. He’s calling it a “no-brainer,” saying Belize needs to work closely with Mexico to make sure the vision of the railway extending into the country becomes a reality. Here’s how he puts it, and why he believes this could be a game-changer for regional connectivity.

“I think it is a no brainer. I know our Prime Minister has been pushing very hard. He worked with the previous president of Mexico and now with the present president. They have invested billions in that Tren Maya for the Southeastern part of Mexico coming o our border. They have interest in moving towards Guatemala. This is 2025, a repeat. These are things that working with a neighboring country that has been a friendly supporting partner for many decades. It is a no brainer that we should do all we can to work with them to see if that dream can be realized here in Belize.”
