A Tropical Twist on a Belizean Favorite

The Open Your Eyes kitchen turned into a cocktail station as Zaron Ellington, mixologist at Travellers Liquors, joined the show to prepare a refreshing Passion Fruit Rum-arita with a spicy twist.

The cocktail puts a creative spin on the traditional rum-based drink, combining the tropical flavor of passion fruit with citrus, sweetness, and a touch of spice.

Mixing Up the Rum-arita

Zaron walked viewers through the simple preparation, beginning with Travellers Crystal Light Rum, ice, lime juice, passion fruit syrup, simple syrup, and a small amount of ground black pepper for a subtle spicy and smoky flavor.

The glass was finished with a sugar rim and dried lemon garnish, adding both presentation and extra flavor to the drink.

Viewers were also shown that the recipe does not require professional bar equipment. While the ingredients can be blended or shaken, Zaron explained that the cocktail can also be mixed using simple household tools.

The finished drink delivered the tropical passion fruit flavor with the spicy element coming through as a subtle kick.

More Than Just Cocktails

Beyond the recipe, Zaron also highlighted some of the products and promotions available through Travellers Liquors.

He shared information about the Travellers Extravaganza, where customers can find different Belizean spirits and assorted packages, including Crystal Light Rum, Belizean rum, gin, vodka, and other products.

He also highlighted Amazon Rainforest Bitters, explaining that they can be enjoyed on their own or used as an ingredient in cocktails as an alternative to traditional bitters.

Bringing the Travellers Experience Home

The segment encouraged viewers to experiment with local ingredients and Travellers products to create their own cocktails at home.

Zaron also shared some of his favorite cocktails to prepare, including a sour cherry drink and a crabapple sour made with a local plum-based liqueur.

For those interested in exploring Travellers products in person, Zaron noted that the Travellers Rum Bar, located about two and a half miles off the Goldson Highway, offers visitors the opportunity to explore its museum, see the packaging process, and browse various products and promotional packages.

With tropical passion fruit, citrus, and a hint of heat, the Passion Fruit Rum-arita offered a flavorful way to kick off the weekend while showcasing the versatility of Belizean rum.
