Trial Begins for Doctor Accused of Tampering With Nurse’s Drink
Nicaraguan doctor Carlos Saborio, 51, stands accused of slipping a substance into a colleague’s drink.
Saborio was charged with administering noxious substances to Venezuelan nurse Javier Brito-Nava.
His trial started today.
The alleged incident occurred on November 13, 2024, at Little John’s Restaurant. Brito-Nava claimed he left his drink unattended and later saw surveillance footage suggesting Saborio had tampered with it. The nurse said he entered the doctor’s vehicle that night but did not regain full awareness until December 2.
At the case management hearing, the prosecution said it would call Brito-Nava and two police witnesses, including an officer who handled the security footage and an IT technician.
Defence attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley indicated he would challenge how some evidence was obtained, prompting a special hearing on admissibility, which is expected to take place today.
