Triple Murder Arrest, But Family Says Wrong Man

San Pedro police have charged a 22-year-old fisherman in connection with last week’s triple murder, but his family insists he is innocent and says surveillance footage proves he was never at the scene.

Shelby Hernandez was taken into custody and charged with the killings of Karim Espat, Oscar Mas, and Yerlin Bueso Alvarez, who were brutally murdered inside a home south of San Pedro Town last Thursday. Espat and Mas died instantly, while Bueso Alvarez succumbed to her injuries hours later at the polyclinic.

Hernandez’s family say he was at home during the attack and point to surveillance footage showing him stepping out of his room several times between 9:15 and 9:41 p.m. According to them, it was the same window when the shooting occurred.

“We got all the video footage, and all of us can say that he was at the house the moment when that happened,” his brother told News Five.

He claims police were shown the footage, but still pressed charges. “They grabbed my girl’s phone, they see the video footage, everything they showed them. They still went and charged him,” he said.

Shelby Hernandez is expected to be arraigned soon.
