Two Charged in Attempted Murder of Security Guard

Police have formally arrested and charged two Belize City residents in connection with an attempted murder reported last Thursday.

Authorities say 18-year-old Kriston Fernandez, an unemployed Belizean, and a 16-year-old male minor were charged today with attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm.

The charges stem from a February 12 incident in which gunmen opened fire on Pineda as he worked his overnight shift. Police reported that the assailants approached the security booth on Cleghorn Street, fired several shots, and fled with two firearms that were supposed to be secured on-site. Pineda survived the attack and remains in stable condition.

Both accused remain in police custody as investigations continue.
